-Sound of needle hitting vinyl on a record player
Reece
-At the beginning of the pandemic, During the time everyone's boredom skyrocketed.
-I become really interested in vinyl albums. I would look throughout my local ASDA and HMV, and also everywhere online looking for my favourite albums on vinyl.
-I was always interested in music, My parents used to say that I would go deaf by the time Im twenty because I would always have my airpods in
MUM
-You know you'll end up deaf sooner or later with them in
Reece
-I would listen to music anywhere I go. The pub, at a restaurant, even in the back of the car.
-So vinyl's just seemed to be an evolution of my musical interest.
-and I this would eventually form into a love for how music is created as I bought more records
-I would constantly listen to the records I bought in my room and was entranced my the production and sound engineering that went into these projects
-It inspired me to try creating my own music
MAKING MUSIC ARC
-Me and some of my friends were always really interested in making music and had wanted to be artists for a while.
-Before I had any equipment I would help my friends record audio in a professional studio that was at my school.
-While at home I was using a very laggy laptop with FL on, trying to recreate some of the beats on the records I was listening to.
-Practicing this and also making my own beats helped me improve dramatically
-I would use some of the instruments and sound bites that my favourite producers used in my own work
-And I really enjoyed what I was making.
-This was still around the time of the pandemic, but I did start making working with some of my friends on Discord, which helped us communicate while at home. On specific friend being Kai who changed his direction in music completely after originally wanting to become a rapper
-Hi kai so during the 1st or 2nd lockdown I believe you wanted to be a rapper that I produced for.
KAI REPLYS
-So I've previously mentioned what inspired the music that I create, but can you tell us what inspired you to want to make music with more of an indie style.
KAI REPLYS
-Ok and so how do you make music at the moment, do you record in a studio, at university, or at home
Starting to rap/ showing my friends
Reece
-At this point I believed that I was pretty good at making generic rap beats, but I always wanted to do something more.
-Working on music with my friends at our houses or even the studio setup that was in my school really inspired me to want to try and make music as well. Even if I was unsure of what style I wanted to have yet.
-One of the albums I have on vinyl is Travis Scott's 2018 project called Astroworld, which is a blend of trap, autotuned rap, and jazz influences which Travis blended together seamlessly.
-I always loved the melodic nature of a lot of Travis's songs.
-So I planned to create songs that were inspired by his style, which utilized heavy amounts of autotuned.
USING THE BAD MIC
-At first I had no money, so I was using a very cheap mic that sounded really bad. But it was a start
BACK TO NORMAL MIC
-Eventually I had enough money from working a gruelling job to pay for the equipment I needed. It took a while to get to this point but I never stopped listening to the music that inspired me, as it pushed me through this.
-Finally I could make professional sound music in my own bedroom, I could work day and night on songs, and this really introduced me into a lot of techniques that helped me become a professional artists.
-And I have never stopped making music since, its a massive passion of mine and I love doing it. I still collect vinyl's and have plans to buy even more pretty soon.
-Even if this is still a hobby that I will do in my bedroom, I love the fact that I took the time to learn the software and music talent, as well as save up for the equipment that I use pretty much everyday now
